Starring in the sports film, The Way Back, where he plays a basketball coach, has reminded Ben Affleck of School Ties.
School Ties is another sports film he did earlier on in his acting career, back in the ‘90s.
Reflecting on the film, this is what Affleck had to say, “I was one of the players on the football team.”
The 47-year-old actor said this while addressing reporters during a press event recently.
Ben Affleck Speaks on “School Ties”
School Ties was released back in 1992 when Affleck was still starting out in the film industry. Speaking further at the press event, the star went on to say, “Some days, you just showed up and you were basically in the background and we had to memorize the football plays. I was the guard, the left guard. It was an unpleasant experience; it was basically just blocking someone.”
In the ‘90s movie, Ben Affleck starred alongside other great actors such as Matt Damon, Brendan Fraser, Chris O’Donnell, Andrew Lowery, Randall Batinkoff, as well as Anthony Rapp. Matt Damon went on to become his very close friend until this day.
“I said, ‘God, these guys remind me of us,’” Affleck added, “I still remember every person and I remember having that feeling of…because you’d all be going up for the same movies and the same shows, so you have this camaraderie, but there’s a little bit of competition.”
“I was like, ‘This is so great, this feels like “School Ties,” ‘and Matt said, ‘Yeah, that makes you Kevin Tighe.’ Yes, it does, I’m the coach now,” to which Affleck laughed.
If you would like to hear the whole interview, you can listen to it on Big Apple Buckets, which is a podcast by the New York Post.
