Robert Levinson, who is a retired FBI agent is now presumed dead. The Agent disappeared in 2007 while he was working on an unauthorized mission in Iran for the CIA. The family made the announcement on Facebook on the Help Bob Levinson page that they had received information that led them to conclude that the man died while he was in Iran’s custody.

However, they did not specify the information they received that led them to make the conclusion. The family blames the Iranian regime for the death of Levinson. They also said they don’t know when they will receive his body but they said this act was one act of cruelty.

Although they are being blamed Iran refuses to take responsibility of the death of this man. Talking through Alireza Miryousefi, who is Iran’s spokesperson for the mission to the united states.

They said that they still maintain the position that Levinson was and is still not in Iran’s Custody.

This former FBI agent disappeared in 2007 on March 9. He was in Kish Island in Iran. Levinson had gone for a mission for the CIA. The details of the mission were not specified or published. Levinson is believed to have been held captive by the government of Iran.

U.S officials believe that Levinson was arrested by Iranian intelligence officials so as to be interrogated and to be used as a bargaining chip in their negotiations with Washington.

Iran still denies any involvement in the disappearance of this Agent. If Levinson was still alive in November 2013, he then became the longest-held American in history going over Terry A Sanderson.

During 2010, Levinson’s family received pictures and a video that showed that this man was still alive. In the images he was shown wearing an orange jumpsuit from prison. he also had chains around his neck.

The video they received showed Levinson pleading for help to return home. The family however released the pictures and videos later on in 2011.

Although the family made efforts to find Levinson as well as the FBI offering rewards for any information leading to his return. No information came up. In a statement on Wednesday the family said that they had received information from US officials that led them to conclude that Levinson is dead.

They expressed how hurt they are as they said that, “it is impossible to describe our pain, our family will spend the rest of our lives without the most amazing man we have ever known, a new reality that is inconceivable to us.”

Although the officials are still carrying on the investigations, it is believed that Levinson may have passed on sometime ago.
